DESIGNS THAT EVOKE EMOTIONS

The impressive list of exhibitors of Ventura Dubai includes and is not limited to:

Dutch scent collective SOM tales of perfume will offer visitors at Ventura Dubai a ground-breaking interactive olfactory installation titled ATMOS. The installation is made out of a deconstructed botanical perfume that lets the visitor compose his/her own scent experience by physically moving through the environment, creating personal stories that will be remembered.

Inspired by the figure-ground perception of psychologist Edgar Rubin, Japanese designer Natsumi COMOTO created her own three-dimensional version of the well-known Rubin's vase. At first glance, it is just an array of random shapes, but by switching the point of view the outline of the vase emerges.

With his latest project ALPHATYPE, Italian artist Lorenzo Marini presents a reflection on the overload of communication and interaction in these times. An immersive white cube filled with graphic language invites visitors to think about the way we express ourselves and communicate with each other every day.

Furniture design and manufacturing studio Modomoro (United Arab Emirates) will showcase a collection of several international designers with a focus on evoking emotions through gripping aesthetics. An example is the 'Deer' armchair by Joanna, which took its inspiration from the namesake animal presented in the symbolism of many cultures, associated with leadership, victory, masculinity, but also grace, love and goodness.

THINKING ABOUT THE FUTURE

Presenting a glimpse of a brighter tomorrow, Ventura Dubai is showcasing designers with a special focus on sustainability, durability, recycled materials, and a focus on a better world.

Atelier Boelhouwer (the Netherlands) will show her series of artificial flowers in bloom that serves as an emergency food source for the ‘big 5 of pollination’: bees, bumblebees, hoverflies, butterflies and moths.

Using waste rope that is used to bind hay and straw together in the horse industry, Dutch designer Ruben van Megen created the beautiful chair 'The Cord Connection' which draws attention to the fact that plastic is so deeply rooted in our everyday lives.

In collaboration with Rabels Furniture, Simona Groshevska (Bulgaria) has created a series of side tables from recycled materials. Being concerned about the environmental impact of her works, the designer used an old shovel handle for her first side table, called "Help me".

Also, Weltevree (the Netherlands) emphasises durability and is showing, amongst other products, the Flying Dishman by Dutch artist Joep van Lieshout. This circular lounge island gives you a unique 360 degree view when you lay on it and is entirely made from recycled plastics in dark mixed green.

INNOVATION IS KEY

Ventura Dubai is proud to present the amazing work of Jólan van der Wiel (the Netherlands), a designer with a long-term interest in natural forces and the way they shape our environment. In collaboration with WoWt, he developed a technology which resulted in the Water Vase Free, whose final shape is determined by the interplay of water and gravity. Real water flows over a ring and creates the illusion of a glass vase.

By taking the printer head in his own hand, Dutch designer Daan Veerman is bringing 3D printing to another level. His Digital Craft collection comprises textiles as well as reinterpretations of standard, mass-produced plastic products such as crates, juxtaposing craft and industry and opposing the image of plastic as disposable material.

Another innovative mind is Dutch designer Thed Konings, who returns the chair to its purest form using the most primary contour: a circle. The mounted spheres are made of a high-tech gel material also used by NASA and frequently utilised throughout the medical world. Playing with the power of the eye and composition, something unique but simple is revealed: ‘un point, c’est tout.' Especially for Ventura Dubai, he designed the new chair as unique and as distinct as the city of Dubai.
